2.) Next to efficiency, capacity is most important. Consider an air purifier's ability to handle the total volume of air in the room.

3) The Environmental Protection Agency identifies three categories of airborne particles: Large: 1.0 microns or larger; mid-range: 0.3 to 0.9 microns and small: 0.1 to 0.3 microns. Mid-range and small particles pose the most serious health risks. Standard HEPA filters target particles 0.3 microns or larger. BlueAir tops the industry in capturing these particles. 6) Operating costs considerations often overlook energy cost. Look for a unit's energy use expressed in watts.

7) Construction quality. Look for metal housing rather than plastic. Metal construction also produces less noise.

8) Consider ease of use and how simple and fast it is to change fliers. Do you need tools to change filters? Do you need to lift the unit:? Beware of ionizers that require you to clean the messy plate weekly.

9) Does the unit offer a good warranty. How long is it for and is it comprehensive?

10) Chose a quiet unit based on decibel ratings and a unit without  a noticeable draft.
