This two part video was developed by Houshang Seradge, MD , a board certified hand surgeon and Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. It’s an effective routine to combat Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. 13 upper body stretches are clinically proven to reduce the effects that lead to carpal tunnel syndrome. No special equipment is needed and each exercise set takes less than 3 minutes to perform. Employees can conveniently stretch next to their desk.

The two video kit consists of:

• Education video (27 minutes): Award-winning video shows employees how to perform Dr. Seradge’s 3-minute exercises and explains carpal tunnel syndrome causes, symptoms and treatment. An additional section demonstrates how to prevent stress-related injuries while working at a computer.

• Employee training video (12 minutes): This video provides a brief overview of the signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome and includes a complete exercise demonstration. Created for time-efficiency, it is excellent for employee orientations and for training updates to ensure workers are performing the exercises properly.

• Exercise implementation manual: This manual provides complete instructions on exercise implementation. It includes exercise instructions in Spanish and an in-depth resource section on carpal tunnel syndrome.

• Safety meeting outline: This helpful outline provides a script and instructions for using the Education Video for exercise training meetings.

• Exercise illustrations: Easy-to-follow illustrations are provided to post at work sites to remind employees how to properly perform the exercises.

In August of 1997, Lopez Foods, an Oklahoma City company that makes the hamburger and sausage patties for McDonalds Restaurants, implemented Dr. Seradge’s Exercises among its 350 employees. At the beginning of each shift, workers were required to spend 3 minutes stretching before beginning their production assignments. They were also encouraged to stretch during each break and at the end of each shift. As a result, repeat trauma incidents, which include reports of pain in the wrist, elbow, arm or shoulder decreased 37.5% in one year.
